Golden Spike and the Spiral Jetty

Colleen, CJ, Randi and I decided to take a road trip to the Golden spike Historical site and the Spiral Jetty.

When we arrived, we found out that they do reenactments of the wedding of the rails on weekends and holidays.  It was a great surprise to see the reenactment.  they do a great job.

Our next stop was the Spiral Jetty.

It is a piece of "earth art" by Robert Smithson.  I'm not usually one for "hippy" art, but I have a deep appreciation for the way this was completed.  It seems almost like a painting right up to the time when you step out onto the Jetty itself.

The design and contrast of the Jetty and the salt really lend itself to black and white photography.
